Special Award in Schenectady

On this Memorial Day, May 26, Schenectady Mayor Gary McCarthy is presenting the annual Patroon Award to The Schenectady Veterans of WWII, Korea and Vietnam.
This unit is not attached to any national unit, such as the American Legion or V.F.W.

They have been a part of Schenectady since the late 1940’s, after WWII. They have served in many more ways than the public realizes including devotion to Veteran’s Park, according to McCarthy.

They have raised funds for over ten years to replace the flag that hangs in the park when they become beyond repair. That cost is anywhere from $600-$800 each, but they never speak publicly about their efforts.

The Schenectady Patroon Award is the highest honor Schenectady bestows upon its citizens.
